"This store has been my life for 12 years, and it was just chaos," says Cindra Conison, owner of the Quirky Pet in Montpelier, Vt., which was flooded with four feet of water in July.

Conison is getting ready to open her store this week after receiving a loan, state grants, and a Small Business Administration loan, WCAX reports.

But she's not alone.

Officials say dozens of flooded homes and businesses are still without heat and businesses that haven't reopened.

Vermont Gov.

Phil Scott says he wants to "sharpen" the state's flood recovery efforts over the next six weeks.

He says he wants to double the $1 million raised already through the Vermont Strong license plates, and by selling Darn Tough and Vermont Gloves socks.

He says proceeds will be split between businesses and the Vermont Community Foundation for home repairs, other household needs, food and mental health for flood survivors.
